The Crescendo International Choir performed a well-attended concert in December featuring a wide-variety of music at the Parroquia de Santiago in Benijófar. Almost 350€ was raised by attendees to the concert to support the Benijofar community.
Music was sung in both Spanish and English. Spanish pieces included Amapola, El Vito, Fum, Fum, Fum, Campana Sobre Campana and Feliz Navidad. Some of the English songs were Imagine, Angels We Have Heard on High and an original song called Christmas Time is Here, with lyrics by Margot Gay and music composed by Antonio Guillen, the choir’s accompanist. In addition, the choir sang White Christmas in both English and Spanish.
Crescendo Choir singers are from many European countries, such as England, Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany, Finland, Denmark, among other nationalities. The choir’s conductor is Irene Oliva, a Spanish native, who also works as a music teacher. She is accompanied by Antonio (Toni) Guillen on the keyboard. He also teaches piano and music theory.
The money raised by the concert was given to the Benijófar town council social services agency. A large basket of chocolate and sweet treats was also donated by the choir for Christmas hampers for needy families. Crescendo Choir gives several concerts a year, raising funds for a variety of causes. On 25 November, 2017, for example, the choir performed a well-attended concert at Campoamor Golf Hotel. A total of 2700€ was raised and donated to Pink ladies and AECC, the Spanish Association against Cancer.
