Calpe and Benissa Lions closed their charity shop for only two weeks this summer. In those two weeks we made some improvements to the shop and prepared for a very successful Antiques Fair at El Canor where we raised over 600 euros. Many thanks go to Paul Horey for very generously letting us have our stall without charge. We look forward to his next Fair at El Canor on the 12th of October, open from 9am to 3pm.
We were certainly very busy helping the community during the summer. Firstly we bought very much needed fireproof jackets for the Calpe Protección Civil, ten in total which luckily so far have not had to be used in any forest fires.
We then bought a large fridge for the Maite Boronat Day Centre for disabled adults, and we are about to buy a new hob for their oven.
The children in the Salud y Comunidad Home in Benissa (formerly EMAÚS) were treated to summer camps by us, and we have paid for their sports activities for this school year.
We have also paid for football training for disabled children in Calpe.
Along with the association MOFTAG we helped pay for underprivileged children, under the umbrella of Social Services, to have a full day at Terra Mitica.
Calpe and Benissa Lions, on a monthly basis donate 350€ to Caritas Calpe and Cruz Roja Calpe, and 300€ to Caritas Benissa. All this is possible due to the wonderful donations we receive from you the public. Apart from paying for the overheads of the shop, all the money we get from the sales in our charity shop goes towards helping people in need.
Our shop on Calle Pintor Sorrolla, 15, Calpe is run by an International team of volunteer Lions members and volunteers. We have a wonderful selection of nearly new clothes and an incredible selection of good quality brica a brac. Our shop is open from 10 am to 1pm, Monday to Saturday. Why not come and have a browse around?
We are always looking for new members and volunteers. If you are interested please pop in to see us in the shop, or call Carole on 639 637 520 or email calcalpe@gemail.com.
