The autumn approaches and so women’s groups across Spain are meeting to decide on their actions and collaborating to raise public awareness of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25 November. The European Union of Women Marina Alta (EUWMA) is right up there, already meeting with the Equality Council for Teulada Moraira and meetings planned in Jávea and El Poble Nou de Benitatxell.
‘Our commitment is a given’ said vice president Marion Oprel as she left the meeting in Teulada town hall. ‘What we need is the message to be on everyone’s lips, in their actions and in their homes: STOP this scourge, this excess of toxic masculinity which leaves children without their mothers, and parents without their daughters. By fighting for women’s rights and equality we are fighting for the rights of each human being.’
Wherever you are on 25 November, join the activity, the procession, the reading of the manifesto or just light a candle in the window and express yourself on social media.
Founded 72 years ago in Vienna, groups of European Union of Women continue to raise issues of equality, exploring the history of women so as to understand inequalities and the possibilities for the future.
Here in the Marina Alta, they work with other women’s groups to expose injustices, raise issues and study best practices. For information about EUWMA, see us on our website www.euwmarinaalta.org, on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/euwma and email euwmarinaalta@gmail.com.
We regularly organise cultural events and round tables, and are inviting female artists to participate in our fourth annual Art Exhibition which will be held in Espai La Senieta, Moraira 30 April to 15 May 2026 with the theme ‘How dare she! – women who choose to be different’.
