A Positivity Prescription written by Coach Niamh.
If happiness had a prescription, it would read: “Take one long walk in nature daily and repeat indefinitely. No nasty side effects, except maybe some weight loss!”
Walking boosts endorphins, reduces stress, and gives you a great excuse to step outside when you need a break – from work, from screens, from housework or an annoying other half!
1. Walking: The Secret Happiness Hack
Have I mentioned this before? Walking is the simplest, cheapest, and most effective way to clear your mind. Just put on your sneakers, step outside, and let nature do its thing. Let me know if it helps.
2. Nature: The Ultimate Mood Booster
Research proves that spending time in green spaces reduces anxiety, boosts creativity, and makes you 100% less likely to scream at irritating teenagers (okay, maybe I made up that bit, but it works for me!) Whether it’s a forest, beach, or just a local park, nature can reset your brain. Amazing right!
3. Mindful Walking: Because Multitasking is Overrated
Instead of mentally drafting an email while walking, try focusing on your surroundings. Listen to the birds, feel the ground beneath your feet, and smell the fresh air. This mindfulness trick helps you stay present and soak in all the goodness around you. I even dare you to put the phone on airplane mode.
4. Bring a Walking Buddy (or Not)
Some people love company, others prefer solo strolls to escape the world. Either way, walking with a friend or a group boosts social connection, but walking alone can be the best “me time” therapy session you’ll ever have. Why not try both!
Final Thought:
If life feels overwhelming, just walk it off—literally. Nature, walking and a little quiet time are the ultimate trifecta for a positive life. And if all else fails, just remember, even a short walk is better than no walk. Unless it’s to the fridge!
