After the hugely successful literary evening under the stars in collaboration with other women’s groups in Benitachell, the European Union of Women continue their innovative programme with two further events already planned, delivering poetry and babies and a special celebration.

Delivering poetry and babies

Have you ever thought what it was like giving birth in Spain not so many years ago without hospital services and modern medicines and procedures? Fortunately for us Laura Pertejo did, visiting her family home in rural Galicia to make a fascinating documentary on the special women – the midwives- who brought the babies of the isolated villages safely into this world. Join us in the Social Centre Benitachell on Thursday 25 September at 7 in the evening to hear Laura introduce her documentary (in Spanish and English).

EUWMA has organised a special celebration of President Margaret Hales’ many years as international President of the European Union of Women, an event on October 10 at the Golf Club Restaurant. Those interested in attending should contact secretary Kathleen on

Founded 72 years ago in Vienna, groups of European Union of Women continue to raise issues of equality, exploring the history of women so as to understand inequalities and the possibilities for the future.
Here in the Marina Alta, they work with other women’s groups to expose injustices and raise issues.
