Dupuytren The affected fingers can't straighten completely.Dupuytren contracture is a condition that causes one or more fingers to bend toward the palm of the hand. The affected fingers can’t straighten completely.

Causes of Dupuytren

The cause of the disease is unknown, although people who have a family history of Dupuytren’s, men of Northern European decent, people with diabetes, and people with a history of smoking/consuming alcohol are at a higher risk of developing the disease.
Dupuytren contracture most often affects the two fingers farthest away from the thumb, as knots of tissue form under the skin, eventually creating a thick cord that pulls the fingers into a bent position, with the condition gradually getting worse with time.
Everyday life activities such as putting on gloves, placing hands in your pockets, shaking hands or even picking up an item can become nearly impossible.

Treatements available

Although there is no cure, treatments from injections to more in-depth procedures can relieve symptoms and slow how quickly the condition progresses, so it is of the upmost importance to diagnose the condition at its earliest stage.
The symptoms are unique and quite visible and easily diagnosed, so if you believe your symptoms match those above, then contact us at Clinica Britannia to see our doctor for a consultation and further advice.
