Approximately 10% of the Spanish population have hearing loss, which equates to about 4,7 million people. The most common cause of hearing loss is age and exposure to noise; however other factors such as infection, genetics, trauma, wax and disease also contribute to hearing difficulties.
Here at InterVision Expert Audiologia our resident Audiologist will not only check your hearing but will also check the health of your ears. By using the most up to date hearing check technology they will look for any external or internal causes for the hearing problem, such as a blocked ear canal with a plaque of wax, or any inflammation caused by infection or irritation. A referral to the medical centre is then recommended, and a further hearing test once earwax is removed or infection/inflammation is resolved.
With tympanometry, they will check the eardrum function, i.e. an acoustic measurement of the eardrum and conduction bones, to distinguish whether sensory or transmission hearing loss is in the inner or middle ear.
Following these checks, the Audiologists will perform an audiometry test and logoaudiometry which makes an analysis of the levels of hearing ability and measures the level of understanding. By introducing different frequencies and intensities they can create a graph. From this graph, they can determine if there is any hearing loss, and which frequency it is. After all the information is collected, the Audiologist will discuss whether hearing aids can help, and which type is most suitable for where the hearing loss is occurring. Once hearing aids are purchased, there will be FREE follow-up appointments to make any further adjustments, and an annual routine hearing check.
