Something to celebrate

something to celebrateWell, it’s official, we’ve been installing Artificial Grass for 20 years here on the Costa Blanca. Just imagine that for a moment. Anyone who has been in any career for any length of time knows that these are big numbers and something to celebrate. Add to that the decade of garden design and landscaping experience I have to that and you start to pull a strong picture of a company that has experience. Proper experience of designing, creating and executing landscape works and artificial grass projects with the level you would expect from a seasoned contractor.
I have just recently sent a quote to a client, and I wanted to see what they thought. They are happy to proceed with us despite our quote being nearly double the cost of the cheapest quote. As a seasoned contractor these numbers don’t upset me, but they do make me fearful. Not for me or my business but for our potential clients. And here’s why.
Because of our experience we know we can accurately quote for artificial grass in our clients gardens. How long it will take, what we need to do or not do, and the full logistics behind each project. I also know that we make almost nothing off the top of our material costs as unfortunately it’s not like the UK and we just don’t get the discounts like a UK contractor would. We make money off our labour which is correct, especially when you are talking about an experienced contractor and we make money off our grass product which we are a distributor for.
We know our retail price for our grass is almost unrivalled and our experience allows us to keep our number of man days on a project down and more accurate, so how on earth can someone do a cheaper price. Even if we have a more expensive labour rate, it wouldn’t make a big difference at the end of the day. So, you as a client have to start to add up. Where can they make these savings? And that is the point right there. They will not be doing the same project as we would. Somewhere down the line they will be cutting corners. They may not be using as much sub base material or creating the correct edging. They may not be removing the old grass (bad idea) they are most likely using a sub standard grass product. The simple fact is that somewhere down the line no matter how you want to look at it, you will be losing out as a client. You will not be getting the same quality product, with the same quality sub base structure and they may even be illegal workers. As a company that has been doing this now for 20 years I can guarantee that, as the old saying goes, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
I have unfortunately seen many grass projects where things haven’t been done right. Some clients are fortunate enough to have enough money to correct it and sometimes even re-do the whole thing. But many don’t. Please don’t assume when someone gives you a quote to do a project that it is, a like for like quote. Because when it’s like that, you can pretty much guarantee it isn’t. Use a company you can trust who has been doing this work reliably and successfully for its clients for two decades. It matters to get it right and have something to celebrate.
