As Christmas approaches, the craft association Amata usually organises special Christmas Arts and Crafts fairs where lovers of authentic arts and crafts can buy original presents. This year there will be two fairs during the long weekend in December (the 8th of December is a bank holiday in Spain): one in Altea and the other in Jávea.
Jávea
In the port of Jávea, the artisans of Amata are present every Saturday and Sunday morning, but on 6, 7, and 8 December there will be more stalls, open from 11am till 7pm, in a festive atmosphere surrounding the big Christmas tree. This fair is located in a beautiful spot, right on the seafront, with stunning views of the port, the bay, with the mountains in the distance. You can combine your visit with a stroll through the port district, with its modern church shaped like a ship, its picturesque corners, and its multitude of shops and terraces.
Altea
This year the Altea Christmas Market is moving to the recently renovated Avenida de la Comunidad Valenciana, just 50 metres from the large free parking lot, allowing visitors to park practically “right at the door.” A very special nativity scene is also making its debut, a joint creation where each figure has been crafted by a different artisan. With a surprising result: Joseph is made of fabric, the shepherd and his sheep are ceramic, one of the Three Kings is of soap, another is of wood, and the ox is made of welded horseshoes.
Both markets offer a perfect opportunity to buy or order your Christmas presents, ensuring you get something original, lovingly made, and handcrafted.
The Jávea market is open on 6, 7, and 8 December from 11am till 7pm.
The Altea market opens on Friday, the 5th of December, from 6pm till 9pm; Saturday, Sunday, and Monday from 11am till 9pm, without closing at midday.
