The MABS Cancer Support Foundation was founded in 1999 and provides support to people with cancer on the Costa Blanca and Costa Calida regions. There are five stores in total: in Jávea, Oliva and Alfaz del Pi serving the Costa Blanca, as well as in San Javier and Totana, serving the Murcia region.
Last year (2024), MABS spent €380,000 supporting 525 cancer patients. Of this total:
• €192,341 was spent on providing home and nursing care in patients’ homes.
• €83,976 was spent on translation for medical appointments and scheduling appointments.
• €43,583 was invested in the loan of equipment, such as hospital beds, wheelchairs, and patient lifts. This amount includes the purchase of new equipment, repairs, and pick-up and delivery services to patients’ homes.
• €24,372 was spent providing drivers for medical appointments, including radiotherapy and chemotherapy, at hospitals in Benidorm, Valencia, Elche, and Madrid.
• €12,412 was contributed to cover treatment costs not covered by Social Security.
Currently, 335 volunteers give their time for free, whether in the shops, on administrative tasks, or organizing charity events. Thanks to the money raised through the sale of donated items in their shops, MABS is able to offer these services and proceeds from the Summer Show at Los Arcos will help us to continue doing so. This fundraiser is taking place on Wednesday 11 June at Los Arcos in Pedreguer with the fabulous “The Entertainers” doing exactly that! Tickets are available at the Javea shop, which is open Monday to Saturday, 10:00 until 13:00 and cost €10. You can bring your own picnic but drinks must be purchased at the bar. There will also be a little fun competition on the night for the best dressed table!
Additionally, on Sunday, May 4, we have organised a sponsored charity walk from the Albir anchor to the Altea port and back, with support from the city council.
