MABS president Jacqueline Phillips MBE was presented with a cheque for 3,000€ collected from two recent fundraising events. MABS is a cancer support foundation, set up in 1999 and available to anyone who needs help or support as a result of cancer and is funded through donations to its charity shops and events such as these.
The first was the postponed Montgo walk, organised by Peter Fulham, owner of The Codfather of Moraira. This annual event has been taking place for the last 5 years, traditionally in October, but delayed last year due to Covid and rescheduled to May. In total seven people took part in the 3-hour trek, collecting 1,700€ between The Codfather, Devine Beauty, Castle Bar and Premium Bar. This year’s walk is planned for Saturday, 29 October and sponsorship forms will be available in September.
The second event was ´The Big Platinum Jubilee party´, held on Saturday, 4 June with all businesses located in the European Centre contributing to raise a fantastic 1,300€. In addition to the previous mentioned it also included the English butcher, Alba Consultas, Tina Mrs Pickles and My Way Bar. Sarah Thomas donated a fabulous balloon arch and Rebecca Myers did a splendid job decorating the entire terrace of the European Centre. A raffle was held, with many generous businesses around Moraira donating prizes, vouchers, meals, cash, services and even a 32” smart TV from Telitec! It was a real family event with fun, laughter and music at heart of it, demonstrating community spirit at its best and raising money for an incredible local charity.
