Women Artists of the Marina Alta
Javea Golf Club and Restaurant hosted an exciting Art Exhibition last month. Town Hall dignitaries gathered together to celebrate 8 talented women artists from 5 different nationalities and all resident in the Marina Alta.
Stunning colour and patterns, detailed portraits and even Marilyn Monroe and Amy Winehouse made an appearance. Abstract art, modern realism, intricate patterns and peaceful landscapes mingled with haunting portraits of women, all painted right here in the Marina Alta. Visitors were taken aback by the variety and vigour on display. The eight artists were Sandi Goodwin, Susan Hankey, Frances Jones, Emma Jane Lawton, Particia Leon, Anna Martynovska, Marion Oprel and Jing Xu-Koprio.
The local branch of the European Union of Women Mujeres en Igualdad Marina Alta organised the exhibition, not only to celebrate the artists and their work but to remind us all that women in Europe and here in Spain still lack equal opportunities, suffer discrimination, poor employment conditions and, of course, gender violence.
