The first Emmaus association was formed by Abbé Pierre in Paris after the Second World War, with the intention of helping the thousands of men, and orphans, left without homes and jobs, who were living on the Parisian streets. There are now Emmaus Associations all over the world, helping the homeless young and old. Friends of the Children of Emaús (CIF: G-54138805) was inaugurated in 2007 with the intention of helping the children in the eight Emaús homes on the Costa Blanca.

These homes have since been taken over by the Association Salud y Comunidad, who is taking care of 125 children in total. Children who have no other home to go to, either because of an impossible family environment, or in some cases because they have no family at all. We are involved in helping the shelters on the Costa Blanca. Most of the Shelters house up to eight children at a time, with the aim of creating as much of a family environment as possible, however, the largest of the Shelters in Altea can house up to thirty children.
Some of the Shelters now have immigrant children who have arrived on the coast, after a dangerous journey at sea, alone and with no family.
The Friends of the Children of EMAÚS's sole purpose, is to help in whatever way we can to improve the lives of the children. To do this we run fund-raising events and work with other groups, businesses, and individuals to raise money to buy much needed items for the children.

Our most important fund raising events are now the Christmas Fayres at Salones el Carrasco in Jávea, on the Sundays 5th and 26th of November, from 11am to 5pm. We look forward to seeing you there.
