Turmeric has been touted as a wonder drug and recently gained popularity in the west due to research highlighting the therapeutic and healing properties. A member of the ginger family; turmeric has been harvested for more than 5,000 years and plays an important role in food, medicine and beauty products in the east.
Golden milk or turmeric milk is an Indian drink which can now be found in almost every trendy high street coffee shop! This golden beverage is easy to make at home and for half the price! Once mixed this recipe can be stored in an airtight jar for up to three months.
Ingredients Spice Mix
• 5 tablespoons ground turmeric
• 3 teaspoons ground ginger
• 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
• 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
• 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
Ingredients Golden Latte Milk
• 350 ml milk
• 1 teaspoon spice mix
• 1 teaspoon agave syrup/honey or
sweetener of choice (optional)
Method Latte Spice Mix
In a bowl add the turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom and ground black pepper. Mix really well and transfer to a glass jar with an airtight lid.
Method Golden Latte Milk
In a small bowl add one tablespoon of the milk with a teaspoon of the turmeric latte mix; using a fork whisk to combine. Add the rest of the milk mix well.
In a saucepan heat the milk gently until steaming, add sweetener of choice, pour in to mug and enjoy!
