Target reached for DiabetesCERO

Specsavers Ópticas has been raising money for the diabetes research foundation DiabetesCERO since March 2024, to help them find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. They are pleased to announce that they have hit their goal of raising 5,000€ for the charity, to fund important research projects in Spain searching for a cure.

This was a team effort with the stores across Spain collecting money and undertaking activities and challenges and they are very proud to have raised so much for this excellent cause.
Cecillia Navarro Tudela, Director of Specsavers Ópticas in Jávea commented, “We want to say a big thank you to everyone who collaborated with us on this campaign. We’d like to thank our generous customers, staff members, family and friends who have donated in store, and sponsored our activities. We couldn’t have hit our goal without you!

Here in Jávea, 276€ was donated by customers in our collection tin and we also organised a charity hike in May to the Montgó mountain. Led by four of our team members, the intrepid explorers faced their fear of heights, stuck together and reached the summit in one hour and 45 minutes, returning back to base in under three hours. Thanks to participation and sponsorship, we raised 325€, taking our stores total to over 600€. We’re very proud of the result and grateful to everyone who took part.”

Optometrist Martín Barrera adds, “Our hike and the campaign in general has been a great opportunity to talk about DiabetesCERO’s fantastic work, as well as raise awareness of the link between diabetes and vision loss, something which we are very passionate about.

If you have diabetes, or are at a high risk of developing it, please get your eyes tested regularly to spot signs of diabetic retinopathy. If this is undiagnosed and untreated, this can develop into Diabetic Macular Edema (DME), among other problems, and cause permanent vision impairment and blindness. Please protect your vision by having your eyes tested on a regular basis.”
