Walking in nature is my favourite way to connect with the world around us, but as the summer heat rises, it's crucial to prioritise hydration to stay safe and healthy during your outdoor adventures. Hydration plays a pivotal role in supporting our bodies, especially during physical activities like hiking, where we can quickly lose fluids through sweating.

A good rule of thumb is to drink water BEFORE you feel thirsty to ensure your body resin's hydrated throughout your hike. Invest in a quality reusable water bottle and make a habit of taking sips regularly to keep your body functioning optimally.

In addition to staying hydrated, other tips for walking in the heat of summer include wearing lightweight and breathable clothing to help your body regulate its temperature, applying sunscreen to protect your skin from harmful UV rays, and planning your hike during the cooler parts of the day to avoid the peak heat hours.

It's important to listen to your body and pace yourself during hot weather walks. Take breaks in shaded areas, and if you start to feel dizzy, fatigued, or experience symptoms of heat exhaustion, such as rapid heartbeat and excessive sweating, find a cool spot to rest and rehydrate immediately. Take this seriously!
